Great Daytrips From Bordeaux - France

Mention Bordeaux to anyone and they automatically think of high quality wine. The region of Bordeaux has been making fine wines for centuries and has become internationally renowned thanks to the efforts of the city of Bordeaux and its trade routes.

Although known primarily for its wine, the city is full of history and has some of the best architecture in France. Recently UNESCO added three of Bordeauxs religious shrines to its World Heritage site list. These are the Saint-Seurin, Saint Andr and the Saint- Michel cathedrals. Before the excellent wine slightly obscures your vision, make sure you check out all the city has to offer.

Wine connoisseurs and culture junkies alike will be amazed with what the surrounding areas have to offer. Basing yourself in the city and venturing into the peripheral areas for daytrips from Bordeaux is easily the best way to really get to know and love this beautiful southwestern corner of France.

Firstly, lets talk wine! Before jumping feet first into the Bordeaux wine experience, why not take a daytrip to Maison de Vin de Bordeaux and gain the knowledge needed to fully make the most of your wine adventure. At the Maison, you will be given an introduction into the many grape varieties and discover how the climate and soils of the region influences the taste of the grapes.

Learn how the masters find the perfect equilibrium and harmony through the making and ageing of their wines. Everyones favourite part of the day is the finale, the tasting! See how different techniques can help you to describe what youre tasting. Now youll be ready to give those TV wine buffs a run for their money.

For a great daytrip from Bordeaux, take the infamous Fortified Towns road to discover a fascinating wine route. Sandwiched between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, this region is by far the largest and most diverse in Bordeaux. Here youll find fruity, lively reds; clarets and ross; crisp and young whites; and sweet whites.

The area is littered with wineries open for tasting and because youre in Bordeaux, you can be sure the quality is second to none. Found a wine you like? Take advantage of the amazing prices by buying direct from the winery where you find your favourite drop.

Need to burn off some calories from last nights over indulgence? Hiring a bike and cycling to the Dune du Pyla makes a great daytrip from Bordeaux. The journey takes about 2 hours and covers a distance of 30 miles (50kms), as you meander through fragrant pine forests on your way to the dunes and the ocean. At three miles (five kilometres) long, the Dune du Pyla sits wonderfully between the sea and the forests. Dont forget your camera!

The Bassin dArcachon is a mecca for locals and tourists who love seafood, in particular oysters. The place to see and be seen in this area is Cap Ferret beach. Taking a daytrip here from Bordeaux will revitalise your senses. The seafront location, the glorious food and the unparalleled views will send your mind into overload.

Taking a daytrip from Bordeaux will really let you experience French life and culture that little bit more. The region is like its wine; the more you drink, the more you want!

Mount Whitney or Bust

- My first camping trip in the Sierra -

In 1952 I was 19 and had previously made only one overnight backpack camping trip to North Fork campground in Santa Anita Canyon with the Boy Scouts. I did have a little hiking experience under my belt and had hiked Mt. Wilson and a couple of other local peaks, but I was certainly not in great condition or ready for what the next couple of days would bring. But I was young.

We met up, my friends from PCC -- Peter Stephens, John Way, Ken Nichols -- and myself and left Pasadena about 8 p.m. Friday evening in Peter's old paneled truck. Eventually Mojave with its infamous Whites Restaurant appeared and we stopped for dinner. About 11:30 p.m. we arrived at Whitney Portal, put our old sleeping bags on the ground making a makeshift campground out of a little space next to the truck, and tried to get some shuteye.

I had no tent, stove, or prepared food-- only snacks and a can of Dintymoor Stew. For sleeping I had borrowed an old, worn-out WWII sleeping bag. I strapped all this on a string backpack I had made while in the Boy Scouts.

Saturday morning we all had a bit to eat, got our backpacks and other camping gear together, and after a late start finally began hiking up the Mount Whitney trail.. By the time we reached Muir Lake it was late afternoon and the group slowed down and began to spread out. I was ahead and forged on. By the time I reached Consultation Lake, none of the rest of the group was in sight. I later found out they had all camped at Muir Lake. I proceeded on up the famous 96 switchbacks, hoping to get a better view and see the rest of my friends.

I finally stopped long after dark and spent Saturday night at Trail Crest, right on the trail. At 13,333 there isn`t anything but rocks and those rocks not very comfortable, particularly with no pad to sleep on. Some time during the night there was a partial eclipse of the moon off in the southwest. I awoke Sunday to people stepping over me and complaining about my blocking the trail. Had some cold granola for breakfast and then headed on up to the trail. The hike from Trail Crest to the summit was spectacular, with views of the whole of the Sierra spread out to the west, and the Owens Valley and then the Inyo Mountains to the east. Telescope Peak in Death Valley was clearly visible. This part of the hike would have been fairly easy except for the thin air which made oxygen difficult to come by.

Once at the summit I signed the log book and enjoyed the view and all the awesome scenery. After waiting a couple of hours for my friends I started to worry and so headed down the trail and finally met up with them about halfway down the switchbacks

Got back to Whitney Portal about noon and got a little rest. My friends finally straggled in about 6 p.m. and we headed for home, tired but very satisfied.

I bought a hula hoop!

Its an iridescent, hot pinkish-purple, speckled sphere sort of thing; its become the bane of my existence! And, its making my chiropractor verrrrrry happy!

Id recently read several conversations about using a hula hoop for exercise in the Virtual DiVAs Yahoo Groups Digest; it sounded so much like fun and like something I could easily tackle. Next thing I knew, I was walking from the store with a hula hoop secured firmly on the store cart I was pushing in front of me. A lady passing by wondered if I remembered how to use it. Humph! Of course; Id made sure there were explicit directions securely attached.

A dilemma is already brewing, alas.

I havent figured out where I can use the darn thing. Its circumference is enormous. Even when Im inside! In fact, its big around is more so than the sonic hoop I originally considered; but then decided against. The sonic hoop had flashing somethings or other located on the hoop opposite each other. They were a bit annoying.

Besides, in the event I decided to use the hoop outside in the dark, it seemed like the flashes would easily draw attention (much like June bugs to zapper lights) to that crazy neighbor lady over there with the hula hoop. At the same time it might annoy the neighbors. Or would that be just me?

Have you noticed where Im going with this?

A plan. You gots to have a plan. For whatever you do! Many times things just come so naturally you do them without thinking. I dont suppose you gave much thought to putting on your socks this morning. (If you did put them on, that is.) You just did. However, subconsciously, getting dressed is a plan. We just dont talk or think much about it. Unless youre three, and your mothers trying to coax you into quit playing with whatever it is that has your concentration at the momentand pay attention to getting ready for, say--church.

If you genuinely want to dress up your business, make it work, and take it to where you really want it to be, to where it ought to beyou must have a plan. A well-thought out business plan!

Where do you start?

The library? The book store? Google, Yahoo, Lycos? Use a search for business plan. Try Business Plan for Virtual Assistant. Or, pose your question at several Virtual Assistant forums; youll discover you can get a sample plan in sizes varying from a simple one-pager to one with 12 or 21 pages. Or more!

When I personally Googled my way around the web in pursuit of topics one might include in a Business Plan, I discovered the result can be many and varied. Because of this, it seems a simple start perhaps using the 5 Ws & an H stand-by (Who, What, Where, When, Why and How) can also help you get your groove on. Here goes:

Who: An Introductory Letter tell us your intentions

What, Where: Title page; include the name of your business, address, contact information

Why: Executive Summary (short and sweet) summarizes the key components in your plan

How: How are you going to get there from here?

You can then segue into a good round of 20 questions:

What are your Vision and Mission Statements? Why are you in business? What are your business goalsas in what does your company look like?

Who do you want for alliances?

Marketing and Sales Plan: What are your products or services? How will you use to set your prices? What are the demographics of your target market-- age, income, occupation? Who is your competition? How will you become visible to your target market? Will you use a Web site? Will you advertise? What and how much promotion will you do? How are you going to build your company? What do you have to do to get you where you want to be 1 year, 3, 5 years from now?

Operations Plan: Will you be a single entity, or in a partnership? Will you incorporate?

Financial Plan: Project your actual Income and Outgo flow

Action Plan: How are you going to accomplish what you set out to do?

Contingency Plan: What will you do for a rainy day If the money isnt there to pay your bills?

That iridescent, hot pinkish-purple, speckled sphere sort of thing may look pretty good on a rainy day.

Van Insurance Quotes -- Find the Right Cover For Your Business

It is essential to ensure that you can find good value van insurance quotes for your company - the difficulty is that the huge amount of insurance terminology can occasionally make it hard to figure out just what cover you need, and what you don't.

All business owners need to be aware of the two compulsory insurance requirements all. Although they are compulsory, they only apply if you have employees or a van or commercial vehicle. Employers' Liability is the most important of the two; if you have any employees, even if they are on a part-time or casual basis, you have to have this cover. If an employee is injured, or suffers an illness due to work, then this covers the cost of any compensation that you might need to pay out.

Obtain Van Insurance Quotes

You need to have van insurance if you use a van or vehicle in the course of your work - even if you own the car or it is a company van. You need to ensure that your insurance certificate covers you for personal use, as well as business use, if you use it for both. This means extending your existing policy to Class One.

You will need Class Two cover if you want to be able to let other drivers use your commercial vehicle or van for business purposes. Class Three cover is required if you need to use the vehicle for commercial travelling purposes, ie driving to different locations to find customers.

You will require van insurance or commercial vehicle insurance if you have a vehicle or van that is used solely for business purposes. Usually, this type of cover will provide third party cover for any trailer that you attach to the vehicle, and also pay for a courtesy vehicle while yours is being repaired.

Another option for van insurance is goods in transit cover. This is worth considering if you have to transport goods across the country as it covers these for loss, theft or damage, regardless of whether the goods were being carried in your own vehicle, by post, courier or road haulier you can find good van insurance quotes online. The insurance policy also needs to cover you on other journeys that you make for business purposes, including trips to the cash and carry and door-to-door deliveries.

Lady Drivers Can Make Savings On Their Car Insurance

Unfortunately your sex can make a huge difference to the amount of car insurance that you pay. Women drivers while having been the brunt of many jokes, particularity from male drivers, can in fact get cheaper car insurance than men.

Statistics have shown that women are indeed safer drivers than men, this is because women have been proven to make less claims than men do on their insurance. They also usually go for much less flashier cars than men choose, instead going for the more reserved and what is classed as the safer car.

There are many online companies now taking advantage of this fact and as such are offering deals specifically aimed at the women driver. Lady drivers can now search online for companies aimed at them and by doing so they can make huge savings on the amount of premiums they pay for car insurance.

However, there are other factors that determine how cheap you get your car insurance, regardless of your sex. The best, cheapest and quickest way to look for your car insurance is by doing so online. By looking online for your car insurance you are able to get instant quotes from many companies which ensures that you choose the cheapest deal possible.

Policy features and benefits and the cost of car insurance does vary from company to company and all policies have exclusions hidden within them so it is essential that you understand just what is included in the quote.

Other factors which are taken into account include the area in which you live. Depending on your postcode you can be charged a higher premium for your car insurance. While there isn't much you can do to change this you can make sure you have the best security features installed on your car, by doing so you can help to reduce the premium.

Commercial Banker Discusses Typical Loan Scenarios for Private Money Deals.

Commercial real estate, private money loans also know as hard money and or bridge loans are becoming more prevalent as borrowers enjoy less red tape, quicker closings and more common sense underwriting than conventional financing provides. Typically though, borrowers still relay on this type of financing as an option when conventional sources are not available.

The increased speed and flexible underwriting comes at a steep price with interest only rates often in the teens, 3- 6 points being the norm and loan terms being relatively short at 12 36 months.

Why would owners pay such high fees/rates? In short, because it makes sense for them based on their current situation. Below are examples of transactions where it made sense for our borrowers or go the hard money route.

Grand Rapids. Small office building that was previously used as the owners business headquarters. The owner wanted to move his business out and convert the property into a multi-tenant building (investment property). To accomplish this he needed to create common areas, alter the entrance and add an elevator to the property. He needed a substantial amount of cash to make these improvements happen.

The problem was four fold: Personal credit was in the 400s, the owner had virtually no liquidity, the owner had no development experience and the year to date, profit & loss and balance sheet showed that his business was losing money. These issues eliminated any type of conventional financing.

The owner knew that the property would be a cash cow, and drastically improve his overall financial position, if he could get the money needed to complete the project. For the lender the deal made sense as well, due primarily to the low loan to value (High equity).

In addition, the exit strategy was simple, after the building was renovated and leased out, the property would stand on its own and qualify for conventional finance base off the new cash flow.

Metro Detroit. Local business that owned six retail buildings and had its loan called (forced balloon) prematurely by its bank. The loan was called primarily because the business had lost money for three years in a row. The bank was nervous the borrower would go out of business. The business was forced to seek alternative financing.

Besides the above, multiple conflicting partners further complicated the matter and made conventional financing that much more difficult to obtain.

However, the properties where in solid condition and had much equity. The borrowers where able to leverage the equity and refinance their existing mortgage and roll in other business debt into the private money loan.

The result was increased cash flow enabling the business to regain profitability even though their rate was much higher than the previous mortgage.

Cleveland. A real estate investor was in the process of purchasing a 40,000 square foot mixed use building. The seller became frustrated and began to doubt the buyers ability to purchase the building as the conventional lender became cautious and dragged the process out. To the buyers shock, the lender pulled out, two weeks before the scheduled close.

The primary issue for the conventional lender was that although the current net operating income could support the proposed loan, the historical (average of the last 3 years) net operating income could not meet the traditional banks Debt Coverage Ratios.

The buyer, fearing that he would lose the property and money he had already put into the deal, used private money to meet the closing schedule. The exit strategy to pay off the private money loan was to simply continue to document the current net operating income and refinance the debt into a conventional loan one year out.

These are typically private money scenarios, others include foreclosures, distressed properties, recent bankruptcies, lack of existing cash flow, partnership buy outs, land contract refinances, need for speed, etc.

Common positive traits that make the loans financeable include loan to values less than 60% and clear exit strategies on how the borrower is going to pay back the private money lender.

Yes, hard money is expensive, but can be a viable option given the right (Or wrong) set of circumstances.

Destination Singapore. A fine city for all the right reasons.

You may have heard the saying Singapore is a fine city. You get fined for this, fined for that you could even get fined for chewing gum (it caused a major door drama that stopped the MRT subway running). While theres no doubt that Singapore takes a tough stand on fines for anti-social issues and basic public behaviour, Singapore is also fine city for a tourists on a stopover or vacation break.

In fact, Singapore is one of the worlds most popular destinations. A tiny island with mighty appeal, lying between Malaysia and Indonesia. Just 14 miles from north to south and 26 miles wide from east to west, its slightly more than 3.5 times the size of Washington, DC. Singapore lies in the heart of exciting Southeast Asia, a bridge between east and west and a place that buzzes 24/7.

It offers visitors a world of fantastic possibilities. Its ultra-modern skyscrapers and towers of glass contrast with the colonial charm of historic buildings, secret laneways and Chinese shop houses.

Its a confusion of culture with slick style and business energy. A melting pot of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian races. Safe, fun and friendly, the perfect place for a break. Singaporeans are super helpful to visitors and just about everybody speaks English as this is the main language of business and everyday life.

Singapore is also just a few degrees from the equator, so its always a hot and happening place literally. Tip: dress for the tropics with light comfortable clothing.

Seven great things to do and see.

Singapore Shopping. A buyers paradise.

The number one attraction is undoubtedly shopping. Stroll down the main boulevard of Orchard Road and youll find plenty to tempt you and your credit card, but window shopping costs nothing. Each side of the road is lined with glossy designer boutiques, big stores and fabulous malls, not to mention shops displaying the latest digital wizardy.

Dont miss exploring the other side of Singapore either. Its fun to spend a day wandering the different locales and historic backstreets of Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street.

Enjoy a Singapore Sling at Raffles.

When in Singapore, feed at Raffles, that was the advice of the renowned English author, Rudyard Kipling, and it still holds true today. The legendary Raffles Hotel is consistently voted as one of the top hotels in the world. It attracted a bevy of literary talent to its doors, from Joseph Conrad to Somerset Maugham to Noel Coward who were inspired by its unique atmosphere. First opened in 1887, Raffles has undergone extensive restoration over the years but today its still as stylish as ever.

Now film celebrities, royalty, sports stars and anyone whos anyone, chooses to stay Raffles. Even if your budget doesnt allow an overnight booking, you could probably stretch to a refreshing Gin Sling in the Long Bar it was invented here. Bartender Ngiam Tong Boon created this deliciously different cocktail close to a century ago.

Food glorious food.

Making money is not the only things on peoples minds in Singapore. The subject of food is a national obsession. After breakfast has finished, where to have lunch and dinner are the big topics of the day. As a visitor, your taste buds are spoiled for choice with plenty of food halls, stalls, cafes and upmarket restaurants.

Nonya or Peranakan food is the closest Singapore has to a national cuisine. It combines Chinese, Malay and other influences into its own unique blend. The resulting dishes are imaginative, tasty and often extremely subtle.

Travel tip: If youre heading this way in the month of July, the annual Singapore Food Festival is in full swing. A gastronomic feast of workshops, places to eat, amazing recipes and things to try are all on the menu.

Singapore Zoo Night Safari.

Forget a typical zoo experience, this is an open green environment where animals are allowed to roam in acres of lush jungle and parklands. Oppressive cages are absent.

The animals are actually kept in spacious, landscaped enclosures, separated from visitors by dry or wet moats. The moats are concealed with vegetation or dropped below the line of vision.

At night, Singapore zoo takes on a totally different feel with the famous Night Safari. A unique experience of exploring wildlife in a tropical jungle at night. Through subtle lighting, you can view over 1,000 nocturnal animals from 100 species in their habitat. Its well worth spending an evening out here. Show time starts at 7.30 as the sunset in this part of world is very reliable, thanks to the position, close to the equator.

Sentosa. Singapores premier island resort getaway.

Just 15 minutes from downtown Singapore, youll find the resort getaway that is Sentosa Island. A stunning blend of leisure and recreational facilities, sea sports, golf and peaceful retreats. Get there by cable car (fantastic views) or bus, taxi and car.

A canopy of secondary rainforest covers 70 per cent of the 500-hectare island and its home to monitor lizards, monkeys, peacocks, parrots as well as other native fauna and flora. With is long stretch of white sandy beach, this is the only place in Singapore with real beachfront accommodation, such as Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort. Youll find this property (and many more choices all over Singapore) at sites like http://www.hotel.com.au/singapore

Clarke Quay. Night moves and grooves.

When the sun goes down, Clarke Quay, on the Singapore River, comes to life. During the 19th century, this was a commercial waterfront area, bustling with merchant vessels. The rich heritage is alive and kicking. The Quay been restored to create a colorful and stylish meeting place, filled with cosy cafes, bars, music and restaurants. Trendy night spots attract a big crowd, especially at the weekend.

Reflexology. Traditional Foot Massage.

Transport-wise, Singapore is easy to get around, by subway, bus or taxi, but youll probably pound the sidewalks taking in the sights and sounds of this great Asian destination. Make time for some pampering.

Reflexology or foot massage has long been part of Chinese tradition and culture - a superb way to relax after a tough day bargain hunting. Youll find plenty of places to enjoy a massage, at exclusive Hotel spas, or the more reasonably priced specialty outlets all around Orchard Road, in shopping centres and Tanglin Road.

Singapore hotels to match every budget.

Singapore is one of the worlds top travel destinations, especially for stop overs. (U.S. citizens can stay up to 90 days without a visa.) Accommodation-wise, youll find a wide range of hotels to suit your budget from major 5 star international names to smaller hotels offering great value rates. Book online and see the deals you can find.

During holiday time, Chinese New Year and during special festivals, it pays to book ahead because Singapore is always a fine experience.

Web sites such as http://www.hotel.com.au/singapore have dozens of choices, in the shopping, business and nightlife districts.

The Search For Homes to Purchase

One of the most difficult tasks for prospective home buyers is finding real estate in New Mexico to purchase. This is especially true for those looking for homes in a location that isnt local. There are several different ways to find homes the newspaper, multiple listing services, and yard signs but sometimes these methods seem to turn up empty handed.

You might find that a for sale by owner website is a better option for finding homes to purchase. Homeowners that wish to sell their property use this website to place an advertisement. The website is very similar to a newspaper, only it includes pictures of the homes and it is easier to access.

A for sale by owner website makes it easy for you to easily search for properties from the convenience of your own residence. The website includes search features that allow you to narrow down the results. For example, if you shopping within a price range, you can enter the minimum and maximum amounts to only view properties within that range.

Most listings on a for sale by owner website include at least one picture of the home. Some listings include others. In either case, the picture serves to give you a visual idea of the house. A description accompanies the picture giving details about the house.

Should you find you are interested in a property you find on a for sale by owner website, contact information is given. Contact information will include some combination of a name, a phone number, or an email address.

Perhaps the best thing about using a website to find properties is that you can easily search in cities and states to which you might not otherwise have access to. This makes it easier for the person who is transferring jobs or simply moving to another location.

Botswana Safari- The Haven Of Wildlife Sanctuaries

Vast landswildlifewell, anyone may have those two in Africa but not definitely like the experience that may be had from Botswana Safaris.

This vast piece of land is only one of the few where wildlife need not compete for land and resources with man. The land area is as large as France yet the population counts only to mere 1.6 million people. As an outcome, wildlife has increased in great number that the place becomes a sanctuary for the finest games in all Africa.

Being the world's largest exporter of diamonds, Botswana no longer has to compete with the tourist market. Yet as grand as its land offers for safari fanatics, it can't help but attract as many tourists as its resources may allow. However, the government decrees the limited number of people allowed to penetrate Botswana safaris, thus the significant increase in prices, which ultimately made it as an exclusive safari destination.

Kalahari dessert dominates 84% of all Botswana. Though it is a dessert by name, Kalahari is not much like a dessert, as we may perceive Sahara. Except for occasional sand dunes, Kalahari is mostly covered with vegetation characterized by bushes, grasslands, trees and scrubs. However, water is meager thus the dessert label.

Visitors of Botswana safaris are almost always amazed at how creative and genius the creation and maintenance of its wildlife sanctuaries.

The finest games in the whole region are found in the Chobe National Park which is located somewhere in the north east side of the country. It harbors the most varied games in the country and is refuted to nurse the largest group of elephants in a single place. Elephants here are estimated to have reached up to 80,000 individuals.

Savuti Marshes, on the other hand (which is located in the Chobe National Park) is refuted to have the largest density of predators found in all Africa. Hundreds of wildlife species are found here, both preys and predators.

Its resources for water encourages buffalo, antelopes, zebras and the likes that are followed by predators such as the leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, lions, and jackals. Some predators here have the tendency to become lazy and living in Savuti Marshes sounds more like a gift than anything else.

Botswana safari is simply a unique place for wildlife conservation. But this act is took time to accomplish. Botswana is a country that is bordered by neighboring countries. While great efforts and done to protect all its wildlife, it still needs other countries' collaboration to make everything working. After all, animals do not comprehend international borders.

Cash Registers Ring Non-stop for Divorcing British Women

But divorce is increasingly becoming more common due to a variety of factors. Women are no longer tied to the stove and children; they have been socially and economically liberated. They are well-educated and readily employable. Family size is getting smaller and women now do not hesitate to divorce since it is easy to bring up a couple of children.

The society has become more individualistic and individual rights have begun to take precedence over rights of the family as one unit. Moral norms have become liberal and spouses, bored of living with the same person, increasingly look to broaden their horizons and move on to new relationships.

Favouring Women

The UK divorce laws have changed in recent years and are loaded in favour of women due to a new found concern for their plight among the legal fraternity. The procedure for granting divorce has been simplified and separation is now quite easy to get for anyone.

Financial settlements are getting more equitable and in a majority of cases the family wealth is being distributed on a 50/50 basis, though that does not stop some women from staking claim to the entire assets brought to the marriage by their husbands.

The British courts, full of sympathetic judges, have started taking into account womens abandonment of jobs as well as their contribution to marriage and promotion of their husbands careers while considering the distribution of assets in divorce cases. This has given the country a reputation of being the most liberal and magnanimous nation in the world for divorcing wives.

Women from other countries in Europe are flocking to the UK to file their divorce cases in the hope of making a fortune from their husbands wealth, a phenomenon that has been derisively labelled as divorce tourism. It seems women never had it as good in the entire history of marriage as a social institution as they are currently having in the UK.

According to some analysts, the reasons why women get such a good and sometimes unfair to men deal, is because in divorce cases women are considered victims who sacrificed their career and earning potential after marriage to become commercially unproductive home-makers. They raised children and minded the kitchen when their husband was at the office doing a job and furthering his career and salary.

This arrangement and the responsibility of raising a family put wives at a disadvantage career-wise in their crucial young years. They find it impossible to recover from the handicap whey they re-enter job market after a decade compared to women who have been working continuously without a family-raising break.

When the time comes to part ways, it is considered reasonable and fair by the judges to give at least half of the husbands assets to women who more often than not would also have children living with them after divorce. Apart from that, the wives are also granted maintenance from their ex-husbands for years and sometimes even a share from their future earnings!

Getting Richer

Women in Britain over the years have been getting richer and improving their social status. So much so that, according to recent UK government figures, today there are more women millionaires than men in the age group of late teens to mid forties. The trend is largely being fuelled by inheritance and divorces whose rate is seeing an upward swing across the board.

The phenomenon of the rapidly climbing divorce rate and the wives getting a large chunk of their husbands wealth as well as their future earnings has the potential to reorganise the distribution of wealth between the sexes in the UK.

Overall, taking into consideration the population as a whole, today there are as many women millionaires as men in the UK, which is a drastic change from the time when all wealth was seen as controlled by men. The scale is evenly balanced for now, but it is slowly but perceptibly tilting toward women as the divorce rate goes up and women get a large share of marital assets. Another factor that is going to making many women richer is the substantial wealth that is being inherited by them as they outlive their millionaire husbands.

Maybe the only way for men to stop this tide is to argue before the judge that they should be compensated for their reduced lifespan and increased blood pressure as they stressed it out in the office earning bread for the family while their wives sat in comfort at home, their only serious challenge being catching up on the neighbourhood gossip.

Does Your Business Need an On-Site ATM Machine?

So youre wondering whether or not its worth buying an on-site ATM machine for your retail store or other business? The best way to find an answer to this all important question is to measure foot traffic in your vicinity, and determine the number of customers that will see and use the machine on an average day.

To justify your multi-thousand dollar investment in an on-site ATM, you will need to place the machine in a prime location where it will be seen by hundreds of people on a daily basis.

Another point that might factor in to your decision is your businesss reliance on cash. If your retail locations do not accept alternate payment methods such as checks, credit, and debit cards, an ATM could be an especially valuable way to increase revenue.

If you do accept alternate payment methods, you should remember the fact that installing an ATM will likely reduce usage of your credit card processing systems, potentially cutting down on processing costs and ultimately saving you money.

On-site ATM machines arent for everybody, and if there are one or more other ATM machines within close proximity to your store, installing another one probably wont do your business much good. If your customers often find themselves short of cash, however, and need a quick and convenient way to refill their wallets, the benefits of installing an ATM could be incalculable.

Cruise Takes A Bruise

Viacom gave Tom Cruise the bruise of his career or, more exactly, its cantankerous chairman, Sumner Redstone, did, for behavior unbecoming an employee of the entertainment giant, saying Cruises shenanigans are not acceptable to Paramount.

Redstones punch to the career launched an entire boxing match of bruising comments.

Mr. Cruises attorney shot back in un-lawyerly fashion, calling his comments disgusting and saying hes lost it completely or hes been given breathtakingly bad advice.

And Creative Artists Agency, which reps Cruise, indicated it might not do more business with Paramount if Redstone was going to continue directing the show from his celestial perch. "Paramount has no credibility right now, the agencys president said, and, as any good politico would, immediately voiced an implied plea for Viacom to get its act together so the two megabuck makers could continue their prosperous co-adventure, saying, It is not clear who is running the studio and who is making the decisions.

Redstone, energized by the effect of his power punching, swung out with, It is about time that the industry started dealing with these stars in a different manner and let them know that they are not going to get big money and act in a way that is inappropriate and embarrasses the studios.

Then he even dared brag about a call complimenting his decisiveness, saying that he had behaved like Samuel Goldman, the famed bullying producer of yore.

While Cruise, the manic scientologist, is culpable for leading a life according to the usual sort of celebrity ignorance, Redstones self-flattering association with Goldwin reminds us a story about a duo of other famed producers gone by, Larry and Harry Warner, that might have some applicability.

The old saw goes, a person calls Warner Brothers and asks, Is Larry there?

The operator replies, No.

Is Harry there? the caller inquires.

No, the operator intones.

The person gives up and decides to call back the next day. Hes told the same thing.

Wait a minute, he says. Every time I call, you tell me Larry is out of town and Harry is tied up? Whats going on?

Oh, the operator replies, every time Larry goes out of town we tie Harry up.

Unsecured Cash Loans borrow instantly for urgency

Are you in urgent need of money? Well, it would be better that instead of wasting time in asking your friends or relatives for the money, which they may not be having that very instant, you apply for unsecured cash loans. The biggest advantage and attraction of unsecured cash loans is that it is approved instantly in an hour for most of the applicants and so the loan amount gets deposited the same day in the borrowers bank account. You can take unsecured cash loan for any personal purpose.

Unsecured cash loans are fully risk free for the borrowers as these loans are approved without collateral. Unsecured cash loans are also know as payday loans since these loans can be repaid when the borrower gets next paycheque. Usually unsecured cash loans are approved for two weeks. However you can extend the loan for some more weeks is the need be so. Generally lenders approve ₤100 to ₤1500 as unsecured cash loan depending on your monthly salary.

One disadvantage of unsecured cash loans is that lenders charge very high fee on the loan. So it is costly loan. However, on comparing lenders you always find a suitable lender charging lower fee. Better take rate quotes for the comparison.

Unsecured cash loans are approved without any credit checks. This is because the loan is based on monthly salary of the borrower and small amount can be easily repaid through next paycheque. So even if you have late payments, arrears or county court judgments in your name, still lenders are willing to offer you an amount as unsecured cash loans.

You should be at least of 18 years of age and should be a regular employee. Also you should have an active checking account in a bank. Avoid extending the loan repayment as it involves enhanced fee of the lender.

Stay at Home Moms and Dads; Let's Make Money from Home!

I am always advised by some of my friends and relatives that I'd better to find a job and spend some time out of home. I really don't know why they advise me to do that while they are not happy with their jobs, getting up early morning everyday, taking the kids to daycare or leaving them with the babysitter and ... . The worst part of their life is the money they make with their full time jobs. The luckiest one can have 10 bucks per hour after paying tax. They also have to pay for gas and other expenses that their cars have every month.

So what advantages does working out of home have for them? Why do they encourage me to do something that they are not happy with it? The advice I always give them is much better. I advise them to stay at home and let their kids grow under their nose. They don't know how pleasant it is when you see your baby takes his first step or says his first word. Most of them are used to hear these news from their babysitters.

You may be a mom or dad with the same issues and problems with your full time job. I don't want to ask you to quit your full time job right away, stay at home and think about working from home. I always try to teach people on my weblog and articles to be broad-minded and not to make any limitation for themselves. They can use their extra time they will have when their kids are slept or at the weekend to find some extra streams of income. Even if you don't need to make any more money and you are happy with your current income but sooner or later you will need some more money. Your children will grow up and there will be many new things that you will have to provide for them. So it does worth if you spend some of the time you are used to spend to take nap or watching TV on finding good ways to create some new streams of income.

But how to get started?

1- First of all please keep in your mind that I do not want to tell you that you will become rich by working from home in a few weeks or even months. In fact you have to avoid all the get rich quick programs. I emphasized on this because I know as soon as people decide to try a working at home business, they turn on their computers, look for a easy work at home job that fits stay at home mothers or dads. It is the time that they can be cheated by scammers. So this is the first thing that you have to take into consideration if you want to work at home and make some extra money.

2- You need to get organized for spending some time on this business every week. This is like other businesses. Only serious and organized people can succeed. If you are a person who starts several businesses and becomes interested in different things but gives up at the first steps or if you become interested in different things just because one of your friends or relatives calls you and talk about it for a few minutes and then you lose your interest even before trying, just because one of your other friends calls you and says she doesn't like it because of this and that, then you have to change yourself before you start a work at home business and become a stay at home mom (or dad).

I have been working from home online for many years. I could achieve to refer 22,000 people to one of the legitimate work at home programs and teach them everything that I knew but only few of them could make money. Not that it was hard to do. It was not hard because I could do it and a lot of other people could do it before me. Just because they were not serious and organized. They had not made a serious decision. This is the most important step. If you decide seriously and then take action and don't give up, you will be able to become a successful stay at home mom who not only enjoys being with her family and children - and of course her children enjoy her presence at home - but can make reasonable amount of money.

3- Improve some of your computer skills. You don't have to be a rocket scientists to work at home but you need to know the basics of computer and internet. When you want to work online and through the internet, you will be dealing with these terms very frequently:

- website
- weblog
- web directory
- email
- link
- search engine
- search engine optimization
- electronic newsletter or ezine
- autoresponder
- forums or discussion boards
- internet marketing
- advertising
- email advertising
- banner and banner advertising
- pay per click advertising and pay per click search engines (PPC)
- joint venture
- link exchange
- domain registration
- web hosting
- auction websites; e.g. eBay

Do not scare if you have not heard about some of the above terms. They are very easy. Soon you will know that working from home and through the internet is much easier than what you thought.

Just open one of the main search engines like Google and enter any of the above terms that you are not familiar with. You don't have to learn in detail. Just the basics is enough for getting started.

4- After improving your knowledge, decide what you want to do to make money. There are zillions of ways to make money from home by using your computer. You will have main options:

- Sell your own products or services
- Sell others' products or services

Don't think that you have to have a factory for having a product which can be sold through the internet. Your product can be very simple things from candle, wooden cross and ... to your articles, cookie recipes and e-books.

It is also as easy as 1, 2, 3 to promote others products and earn commissions. There are thousands of affiliate programs that you can join and become able to promote thousands of different products. Some affiliate programs pay as much as 75% commission to the affiliates.

Good Luck!

Brighton Travel Information & Tourist Guide

The City of Brighton and Hove is a modern, vibrant, cosmopolitan City by the Sea, situated between the beautiful South Downs and the Sussex Coast approximately 60 miles due south of the United Kingdom capital, London.

Brighton has long been one of the UKs biggest and most fashionable seaside towns and is a popular tourist resort with many hotels, restaurants and entertainment facilities together with a considerable business conference industry.

Originally known as the modest fishing village of Brighthelmstone, this city has strong connections with the past with its regency architecture, Victorian Sea Life Centre, Brighton Pier, and of course The Royal Pavilion. By 1825 after Dr Richard Russell extolled the virtues of bathing in and drinking seawater, Brighton was born as a fashionable seaside resort.

Now it is a contemporary metropolis, with diverse shopping from Churchill Square and Western Road, to The Lanes and bohemian North Lanes, London Road and St James Street, Church Street and George Street in Hove. There is a new state of the art Library, restaurants, bars and clubs to suit every taste, theatres, cinemas, 10-pin bowling and casinos. In addition there are 2 universities, and a wide variety of sporting activities, including successful cricket, and football teams, and even a racecourse and greyhound stadium.

Another unique and historical attraction is Volks Railway, the oldest operating electric railway in the world. Created in 1883 by Magnus Volk, this 1 mile track links the Aquarium and Pier with Brighton Marina, with a half way stop near the childrens playground.

This year Brighton & Hove have been awarded its first ever Blue Flag award for its beaches at Hove Lawns and West Street. These guarantee that they are litter free and have clean swimming water. There is also a discreet naturist beach at Dukes Mound near Brighton Marina.

After a visit to Brighton Pier what better way to continue than with a stroll along the beachfront and down to the boardwalk. Here you can find the artists quarter and fishing museum. There is a traditional carrousel and various bars, clubs and restaurants under these historic arches. Further along the seafront you will discover a childrens playground, paddling pool and volleyball court.

From here you come face to face with the remaining wreck of the West Pier. This was originally built in 1866, has been lying derelict since 1975, and was destroyed by arson attacks in 2002. Although certain pieces from this Grade I listed building were removed and have been kept in storage.

However, the exciting news is that work is due to commence at the end of July on this site for the groundbreaking Brighton Eye. To be built at the shore end of the wrecked pier, the i360 (as it is also known) will have a 172 meter high needle tower, with an ascending and descending circular viewing platform with a capacity for 125 people. It will be Britains highest observation tower with breathtaking views along the coast, across the South Downs and across the Channel. Completion of this exciting and innovative construction is scheduled for 2009.

Tea: How Is White Tea Graded?

White tea has become a very popular drink in recent years. Though its been grown at least as far back as the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.), it is a new beverage to most people in the Western world.

Later, during the Song Dynasty (960-1279) the emperor Hui Zhong declared white tea to be the most elegant form of tea, and this declaration made white tea more popular and increased the number of tea gardens growing the variety. During this same dynasty, a new method of white tea preparation emerged, known as the Song method.

Prior to this, white tea leaves were processed into cakes and prepared by boiling pieces of the tea cake in kettles. During the Song Dynasty, white tea began being produced in powdered form. After the white tea leaves were steamed and dried, they were ground into a fine powder. This powder was whisked with hot water in wide bowls. This method of preparation produced a tea that was either emerald or iridescent white in color.

The most popular cultivars for white tea include Da Bai, Xiao Bai, Narcissus and Chaicha bushes. Based on the different standards of picking and selecting the white teas, they can be classified into different grades. Following is an overview of white tea grades.

Bai Hao Yinzhen Tea This tea is produced mostly in the Fujian province of China, but is also produced in the Jiangxi Province, the Lin Yun Province and the Yunnan provinces of China, too. It is generally referred to as Silver Needle tea and is considered the highest grade of white tea.

The best Yinzhen white tea is picked between March 15 and April 10. It must be picked when the weather is dry and only unopened and undamaged buds are to be used for the best flavor. This tea is very low in caffeine. It is very pale in color when brewed, and has an extremely mild flavor. In fact, it is so mild that some people find it nearly tasteless. When brewed this tea will look pale yellow and there should be floating white hairs that reflect the light.

Bai Mu Dan Tea This tea is known as Pai Mu Tan, White Peony or White Hairy Monkey Tea. It is grown primarily in the Fujian and Chongqing Provinces of China. This is a lower grade of Yinzhen tea that contains fewer buds and more leaves. It is picked only between March 15 and April 10 and only on days where there is no rain, no frost and no dew on the ground.

The stems must not have any purple buds and leaves must be completely undamaged and buds completely unopened. The best Bai Mu Dan uses the top two leaves and the unopened bud only. Once the leaves are dried they should appear green.

This white tea has a delicate floral fragrance and a mellow, fruity and sweet taste, but brews up slightly stronger than Bai Hao Yinzhen Tea. The liquor is shimmering and clear. The brew will have a very pale green or golden color. This tea is considered to be the second highest grade of white tea.

Shou Mei Tea This tea is primarily grown in the Fujian and Guangxi Provinces of China. It is produced from naturally withered upper leaves and tips of the tea plant. It is plucked later than Bai Mu Dan, resulting in darker leaves. This white tea will have a stronger flavor than many other white teas, somewhat like oolong tea. The flavor is fruity, but can become bitter if over brewed. It is considered a fourth grade tea.

Darjeeling White Tea This tea is grown in the Darjeeling region of India, where it is picked and rolled by hand and then withered in the sun. It must be grown at high altitudes with lots of rain to produce the right flavor. Darjeeling white brews to a very pale color and delicate aroma.

Ceylon White Tea Ceylon tea is produced in Sri Lanka. It is harvested and rolled by hand and the leaves are withered in the sun. It has a very pale color when brewed and has a bit of a honey flavor. Ceylon white is a highly prized Sri Lankan tea.

Within these different categories of white tea, there are some grades based on the quality of leaf used. For example, in white teas in general, the highest grades use a higher proportion of bud to leaf. However, there are no internationally recognized standards for the grading of tea, so it can be quite difficult to determine the highest qualities in white and other varieties of tea.

In general, higher quality tea should be higher priced, but tea that is rare is also higher priced, so that can make it difficult to spot the best teas, too. First pluckings in white tea produce a higher quality of tea, so its wise to shop for tea that is labeled such in order to get the best quality.

Finding the best white teas may be a bit difficult and may cost a bit of money, too. However, the best white teas are so very delicious that they are well worth the extra time and cost.

Pub Tables: Fabulous New Places To Put Them

Pub tables are no longer just found in bars. Nowadays there are pub tables used for the home as well. Pub tables have proven to offer quite a bit of versatility and while many have always thought pub tables are only used for entertaining purposes, many others realize the full range these tables offer.

Lets start out by saying many pub tables used for the home are indeed purchased for bar use. If you do a lot of entertaining and theres only a few seats at your home bar, having one or two pub tables can provide for a better entertaining environment. However, as I stated earlier, this is not the only reason people purchase pub tables used for the home.

Lets say you have a small breakfast nook and a regular dinette set just wont fit in there. Should you just leave it empty? Of course not! Simply use a pub table. The smaller diameter of pub tables used for the home should allow you to fit a pub table and at least two chairs into the small breakfast nook area.

Another great place to put pub tables used for the home is on an enclosed deck. An enclosed deck is great for enjoying the outdoor air and pub tables used for the home offer a wonderful place to sip a cool glass of lemonade or iced tea. It is not uncommon for people to have a few bar stools and pub tables used for the home furnishing their enclosed outdoor rooms.

When shopping for pub tables used for the home, remember that even though you dont need your pub table to have commercial durability, it doesnt mean you should settle for poor quality and as with many things, you get what you pay for. Make sure the pub tables you purchase are durable and that youll get years of use out of them.

The price range for quality pub tables used for the home varies, but you should plan on spending at least three or four hundred dollars. If someone is selling pub tables used for the home at one or two-hundred dollars a piece, theyre not selling quality pub tables.

Luxury Cars: Toys for the Big Boys

Luxury cars are the playthings of the rich and famous. It comes as a status symbol to drive and ride in a classy and expensive vehicle. There is a market for this affluence; otherwise no cars of this calibre are manufactured to serve the discriminating preferences of this niche. Surprising enough, demand escalates for the more expensive types and the limited production of these fine cars makes them even pricier.

Most luxury cars are hand crafted and designed with fine and comfortable trimmings. Rolls-Royce or Mercedes-Benz, even Daimler and BMW have set up a luxury car segment where manufactured coupes are fine-tuned to fit owner preferences at a price that exceeds the range of normal sedans, sports coupes and SUVs.

It is extreme pricing more than technological features that set luxury cars from the regular 4-wheeled machines. These cars usually sell at a six-digit figure floor price. In a 2006 survey of luxury cars in the market, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 a European built and designed car is deemed the most expensive coupe, being retailed at $ 1,192,057 million dollars. The SSC Ultimate Aero, an American car was selling at $ 654,000 dollars; a tag price that compensates for its identity as the fastest car in its class. Giant car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz also churned out the SLR McLaren at $ 452,750 and the Maybach 62 at $ 385,250 dollars.

Before the end of year 2006, Rolls-Royce presented an extended version of the Phantom that is outfitted with bullet-proofed features and a roomy passenger cabin to provide lavish comfort and a pleasant driving experience. Such opulence would come at a whooping cost of $ 3.8 million dollars. Toyota on the other hand gave a lift to increasing environmental concerns by giving the industry a hybrid engine train for its Lexus LS 600h L, sold at $ 104,750 dollars.

The premium pricing of luxury cars is compensated by the built-in, power-packed performance features. A distinguishing feature is its power train. The Jaguar car series for example, carries on its hood a throbbing V-8 engine that delivers top-notch speed when moments call for it; an all wheel drive system that comes fully loaded and with superb handling capabilities. Additional features common to most luxury cars, the Mercedes-Benz E500 and BMW 500xi included, are the electronic stability program, digital surround-sound and hands free communication system that allows the driver use of the mobile phone from controls built into the steering wheel. Aesthetically, these luxury coupes are fitted with ergonomically designed leather seats, poplar or maple trims, wireless technology via Bluetooth, park-distance controls, electronic sensors and climate control sensors that can detect and evade pollutants like carbon monoxide and ethanol.

The Daimler Chrysler is popular for its top of the line engineering and car safety features while the Cadillac SRX has perfected the magnetic ride control, the XM satellite radio and back-seat DVD entertainment on top of superb luxury touches.

A new breed of luxury cars with superb aesthetic and aerodynamic features hits the market in 2007. This includes the diamond clad Mercedes-Benz, the all chrome BMW, the gold and diamond inlaid interior of the Maybach 57S and the gold plated Porsche Boxter in 22 karat beaten gold.

More expensive toys for the big boys, huhdefinitely!

You Don't Ever Have To Get Lost Again With New Auto Navigation Systems.

I was checking out a friend's new car a couple weeks ago when I noticed that he had one of those cool auto navigation systems in it. I had seen those things in rental cars before, but hadn't actually known of anyone that had one. I asked him to take me out for a ride so I could see how it worked. Since he wanted to show off his new wheels anyway, he quickly agreed.

I kept my eyes on the auto navigation system the entire time we were on the road. My friend excitedly explained how the thing worked. Apparently, he had purchased a top of the line GPS auto navigation system that tracked the car's position using satellite. I watched the map closely, and sure enough, it was as correct as could be.

I mean, we would pass a landmark out on the side of the road while the on screen map was showing the exact same thing. I asked my friend how easy it was to find new locations using these auto navigation systems. He said all he had to do was type in an address or phone number using the touch screen menu, and the shortest route would appear within seconds.

I decided there and then that I had to check out some auto navigation systems for my own car. When I got home, I immediately logged onto the Internet to do a bit of research. I still didn't know very much about these devices, so I wanted to read a few auto navigation system reviews before spending my money. I wanted to know which brands packed the most features into each unit, which brands had the best prices, and which brands had the most favorable consumer reviews. I was able to find all of this information quickly and easily, which made shopping for an auto navigation system as peacefully as I could have hoped.

After I was satisfied that I knew enough about auto navigation systems to make an informed decision, I went ahead with my purchase. I was even able to find a website that specializes in selling auto navigation systems for much less than the retail price. I got a fantastic deal on the model I wanted, and ended up saving hundreds of dollars.

I've only had my auto navigation system installed for a short time, but it's already helped me out quite a bit. I've been able to avoid traffic, find shorter routes to the places I visit regularly, and save me money by alerting me to alternative exits when I'm driving on tollways. All in all, I can't imagine ever driving without one of these auto navigation systems to guide me when I'm out on the road.

Jaime Gold Grand Prize Winner 2006 World Series Of Poker

Not so very long ago poker was just another card game, but not anymore. Poker has evolved thanks to The World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour into what might almost be considered a sport attracting unprecedented player participation, and literally legions of fans.

Just think of it, this 2006 World Series of Poker enjoyed the highest player participation in its 37 years of tournament existence, and the prize money was phenomenal. Chip leader Jaime Gold, of Malibu, California left the tournament with a record-setting $12 million dollars in prize money. However, he may not keep much of it. Part of his winnings it is rumored up to 50% - will be claimed by Bodog, the online gaming company that reportedly advanced Golds $10,000 dollar entry fee, and perhaps other expenses. Jaimes coach, the legendary WSOP poker champion Johnny Chan (ten WSOP Bracelets), is reportedly due 10% or $1.2 million dollars for his efforts, and what about the $1 million dollars Jaime said he would give to the dealers if he won the tournament ?

All told, that would leave Gold just shy of four million dollars before taxes.

The 2006 World Series of Poker Tournament ran from June 26th to August 11th at Harrahs All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The Tourney had a total prize pool of $82,676,084 million dollars. Twelve of the over 8,000 entrants into the Tournament took home over one million dollars apiece. They were:

* Paul Wasicka $6,102,499
* Mike Binger $4,123,310
* Allen Cunnigham $3,628,513
* Rhett Butler $3,216,182
* Richard Lee $2,803,851
* Douglas Kim $2,391.520
* Erik Friberg $1,979,189
* Don Friberg $1,566,858
* Fred Goldberg $1,154,527
* Lief Force $1,154,527
* John Magill $1,154,529

The 2006 WSOP Tournament enjoyed vast exposure. In addition to extensive television and newspaper coverage in the U.S. the games were covered by no less than several hundred reporters representing the newspapers of some twenty foreign countries who diligently tracked the progress of players at the events 200 poker tables.

Now, poker may not really be a sport, but playing in a major tournament is undoubtedly a real test of ones mental endurance and physical stamina. Veteran players are well aware that the long hours of play and the tension accompanying big-stakes poker takes its toll. That is why massage therapists roamed the tournament floor during the 2006 WSOP. That is why some players arrived early to go through a stretching regimen. Experienced tourney players drink copious amounts of water and eat fruit and other nutritious foods to flush the system and supply energy. The smart ones avoid alcoholic beverages, knowing that staying alert and refreshed is a key factor in winning or losing. Being in shape and ready, like any athlete paves the road to success.

Your House As A Painting: What Art Can Teach You About Decorating Your Home

Framing

One of the most important, most fundamental - and most overlooked - aspects of painting is an appreciation of the frame. This does not refer to the wooden strips that a picture is "framed" in, in order to hang it up; but, rather, it refers to the relationship between the body of the painting and the area beyond its edges. Every artist makes the conscious decision to end his or her painting somewhere, to mark off a small area in which to create his or his art, to limit the scope of the painting and separate it from the rest of the world.

In a home, think of each room as a distinct painting, and the boundaries of each room as its frame. When decorating, keep these frames in mind, and decorate within - as opposed to through - them. In other words, keep the elements of one room's dcor clearly within that room. You may establish a theme for the entire house, or for one floor, or for one multi-room space, but do not blend rooms into each other. Keep each room clearly defined; keep each painting inside its frame. Make it clear where the kitchen ends, and where the living room begins.

Golden Thirds

One of the first rules (or, less strictly, guiding principles) of artistic composition is the rule of golden thirds: the simple concept that a composition's main focus should be located somewhere on a set of imaginary lines that criss-cross a canvas at the horizontal and vertical intervals of one-third and two-thirds.

In order to apply this concept to home decorating, visualize all the planes (floor, walls, ceiling) of a room, and use your imagination to "draw" the golden thirds across them. Then, try to concentrate your decorations along these lines. For example, establish a line one-third of the way down your living room wall, and use it as guide as to how high to hang a set of paintings or other wall hangings; or, "draw" a line two-thirds of the way across your kitchen floor and place your kitchen table overtop of it. Usually, you'll want to use one or two big elements, such as furniture, in combination with golden thirds so as to utilize the lines without making them obvious.

In a more general way, the rule of golden thirds leads away from static, unimaginative, and rigid symmetry by forcing the artist - or decorator - away from the very middle part of the composition.

Palette

After the frame is set, and the composition and concept complete, a painter decides on a palette with which to colour his or her painting. A good palette is usually minimal, featuring perhaps three colours that are then used and mixed to create an artwork with a dominant colour scheme, and therefore a strong character.

In home decoration, a palette can take the form of at least three things: colors, just as in a painting; specific objects, like a collection of spoons or a set of rugs; or themes or motifs, such as seashells for the bathroom or arches for a hallway. The key to using any one of these types of palettes is to pick elements that both fit a room by themselves and that provide ample opportunities for fruitful combinations. And, also keep in mind that because each room is "taken in" at once, it is more important to make sure that the palette in each room is solid than it is to make sure that, say, the rug in the living room matches the one in your bedroom.

Conclusion

Although home decoration is a different art than painting, both are, indeed, still arts. Therefore, the methods, techniques and theories that have been perfected throughout history in painting can be quite easily adapted to fit decorating. As American music composer Lukas Foss said: "Most people think an artist tries to be original, but originality is the last thing that develops in the artist." So, even when no one notices that your beautiful new dining room is based on "a van Gogh", they won't miss that it's still beautiful - and that's all that matters.

Oh, and remember to have fun, be creative, and feel free to break some rules after you learn them!

Eating Out In London

London is without doubt the restaurant capital of the UK. Immigrants of all nationalities have brought their own exotic flavours and culinary culture to the city, making London an exciting and cosmopolitan place to eat out. Heres a guide to some of the best restaurants area by area.

Covent Garden

Covent Garden is an attractive area with a covered piazza complex at its centre. Its popular with tourists but can be pricey. If youre looking for an inexpensive meal in this area your best bet is to try out some of the large bar/restaurants such as Wagamama and All Bar One, where youll find reasonable quality food in stylish surroundings at affordable prices.

If you want to experience a traditional London restaurant, try Rules on Maiden Lane. Its rather expensive but its worth it. Reputed to be the oldest restaurant in London, it has a beautiful vintage interior and serves old London favourites, from oysters and eels to pies and puddings.

Another famed London restaurant and popular hang-out of the rich and famous is The Ivy on West Street. Youll need to book a table weeks in advance to savour its wonderful modern and luxurious British cuisine shepherds pie, leek tart, kedgeree and the deliciously decadent sticky toffee pudding.

South Bank

Urban redevelopment has seen lots of gastro-pubs pop up in this area chic and trendy bars serving high quality food in informal surroundings and at reasonable prices.

For fabulous modern European cuisine, try Festival Square on the ground floor of the Royal Festival Hall. Its a relaxing caf-bar serving everything from light snacks to filling main course dishes.

Another popular gastro-pub is the award winning Anchor and Hope on The Cut. In contrast to many of the bars in this area, its dcor is traditional, with oak panelled walls, but its food is most definitely up-to-date. Try the beetroot and goats cheese salad or the lamb shank with minted beans.

Bloomsbury

Bloomsbury is home to many of Londons top academic institutions such as University of London, University College London, Birkbeck College and the British Museum. Its always bustling with students and as a result theres a great choice of good but cheap caf-bars and brasseries as well as some more upmarket restaurants.

The Coffee Gallery on Museum Street, next to the British Museum, has an eclectic range of organic and vegetarian dishes, from sandwiches to salads and pastas.

One of the best ethnic eateries in the city is Hakkasan, Londons first Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant. Its chic and sophisticated, with inventive dishes and a fashionable cocktail bar.

Knightsbridge and Chelsea

Two of the most fashionable and exclusive parts of London, Knightsbridge and Chelsea are dotted with upmarket and Michelin-starred restaurants.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has Londons only restaurant with three Michelin Stars. Named simply Gordon Ramsay, its on Royal Hospital Road near Chelsea Embankment.

Founded in the 1950s, the Troubadour on Old Brompton Road is an eclectic caf-bar with a prestigious live music heritage. Bob Dylan, Charlie Watts and Jimi Hendrix are among the stars who have performed here. The epitome of London bohemia, this West London institution has a deli, club and caf, and its great place to hang out for food, drinks and music.

Camden

Camden is young, hip and trendy and theres nowhere better in London for a lively night out. There are restaurants of all sorts interspersed between vibrant bars and clubs.

For excellent French cuisine, try Le Petit Train on Chalcot Road, or Belgo Noord on Chalk Farm Road for hearty Belgian cooking and great beer. The best tapas can be enjoyed at the Spanish themed Bar Gansa on Inverness street.

Soho/Chinatown

Soho is probably one of the best places to eat out in London in terms of quality and value for money. Most of the restaurants offer fabulous cooking at reasonable prices, especially in Chinatown, where there are some great Szechuan, Thai, Cantonese, Japanese, Indonesian and Vietnamese restaurants. Try Imperial China Cantonese restaurant on Lisle Street, Kulu Kulu Japanese restaurant on Brewer Street, Busaba Eathai Thai restaurant on Wardour Street or Saigon Vietnamese restaurant on Frith Street.

Brick Lane

Londons large Asian population is concentrated in the East End, especially around Brick Lane. Lined with Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants, its earned the nickname the Curry Mile. Monsoon is one of the hippest modern Indian restaurants, with contemporary Tandoori dishes as its speciality, whereas Sweet and Spicy gets back to basics, serving top-notch Indian food in modest surroundings. One of the most stylish Bengali restaurants is Caf Naz, a sleek caf-bar with modern wood and steel dcor and atmospheric lighting. Its fish and seafood dishes are delicious. Preem is another good Bengali restaurant with a fantastic range of balti dishes.

Islington

Once a run-down residential area, this inner-city suburb in the north of London has been given a new lease of life in the last few decades. The beautiful Victorian townhouses have been renovated and its now a trendy and fashionable part of London with an air of bohemian chic. The restaurants are a varied mix of stylish and quirky. The Elk in the Woods, for example, is reminiscent of an old ladys living room. Its a small and cosy place on the lovely cobbled Camden Passage. Just like the dcor, the food is inventive and unusual with a modern European influence. Flaming Nora is a great burger restaurant and takeaway, but its not a typical fast food joint. The burgers are all made from the freshest, highest quality meat and fish, chargrilled to perfection. Aberdeen Angus, lamb and tuna burgers are the specialities, and it also does a great line in skewers and kebabs.

The Problem: Inertia

Dear Dr. Dennis:

Ive read a number of your articles where you talk about having game (the ability to meet women, get numbers, etc.) Unfortunately, I dont have any! Im more of a home-type person who wants to get out and do more with life but a lot of times I find it difficult to do. It seems that Im at war with myself about going out! Half of me says to get out and go do something and the other half just doesnt want to do anything.

Can you help me to put this war with myself on a permanent truce?

=====================

Hello!

I call this "the problem with inertia". Inertia about is that part of Newton's first law that states:

"A body in motion tends to stay in motion and a body at rest tends to stay at rest."

"Inertia" is that tendency for a body to be at rest or in motion. Yes, I know you didn't write to me for a physics lesson, but it applies pretty well here. Read on, my brother...

Right now, your inertia is to be "at rest". In other words, you're trying to stay right where you are because that's what you've been doing all this time. What you need is just a little push in the right direction. Your own mind is the very push you seek.

In my first book, "Being a Man in a Woman's World" I talk about the importance of having clear, written relationship goals. Many people create goals for their lives, but don't bother doing that for their relationships! What a mistake! Where are you going to spend most of your time? Hopefully in a happy, healthy relationship!

Something magical happens when you create the right type of goals and commit them to paper. Im not going to get into all the science behind this (whew!) but trust me it exists and it works.

In effect, having these right goals will program your mind into action. Being clear on what you want, when you want it and how youre going to go about getting it is 90% of the battle!

Most people set goals like this: they say, I want to meet a nice person.

That, my friend, is not a goal its a dream. When was the last time a dream made you go out and do something positive for your life? Answer: never. Thats not what dreams do! Worse yet, its so vague and non-specific that the very first person that walks by becomes the right one because everyone is nice! Is that all you want? I hope not you deserve much, much better than this.

I suggest you create clear, compelling goals. These goals are going to spur you on to action because thats just how our minds work. You just need to invest a little in getting these goals committed to paper. If youre not sure exactly how to create these goals, check out the book as it goes into it in great depth along with all the things you need to consider, creating a plan of action, etc.

Use inertia to your advantage by taking small actions first. Dont let it keep you at rest!

Best regards...

The Charm of Kitakyushu

The city of Kitakyushu in Japan is a scenic place that is a fusion of industry and culture, Japanese history and modern technology. It was formed in 1963 through the union of the cities of Kokura, Moji, Tobata, Wakamatsu and Yawata. Not as well-known to tourists as the bigger cities like Tokyo, the city of Kitakyushu preserves its natural beauty amidst clear blue seas and lush, green mountains. This peculiar blending of beauty, modernity and relative anonymity makes up the citys charm.

Industrialization. When Kitakyushu was formed in 1963, the city lacked connectivity. Hence, the establishment of a cultural center called RiverWalk Kitakyushu which created a unified identity for the city. A center for high and popular arts, the place houses various retail and entertainment venues. Physically, it links the traditional retail district of Kitakyushu with Kokura Castle and Katsuyama Park. Symbolically, the project unites the city through a collection of five bold, iconic forms representing each of the citys five districts: Kokura, Moji, Tobata, Wakamatsu and Yawata. RiverWalk Kitakyushu has received much praise and commendation from both the local and the international community. The project is also the recipient of the 2001 American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture.

Economy. One of Japan's most important manufacturing regions, Kitakyushu is also one of the countrys chief ports and railroad centers. With the early beginnings of Japans iron and steel industry in the city, Kitakyushu is now one of the largest iron and steel producing cities in the country. Value-added types of industry such as electrical machinery industries, industrial robotics, semiconductors, and environmental technology have also grown in the city in the past several years. Meanwhile, the steel and raw materials industries have diversified into high processing and high value-added industries. Center of finance and commerce in the city is Kokura.

Culture and Attractions. More than natural beauty, the city boasts of various recreational establishments and cultural events that delight tourists and citizens alike. One place to go to when you want some excitement is Japans first castle theme park: the Kokura Castle. It features an innovative Karakuri theater that provides visitors an insight into the Edo Period.

Another natural scenic spot in the city is the Hiraodai Karst Plateau, designated by the government as a natural monument. With green fields and pedestrian paths, the place is ideal for picture-taking, picnics, or simply for relaxation. Just nearby the plateau is the Hiraodai Countryside Park ideal for hiking and nature education.

Various festivals are celebrated in Kitakyushu, most of which started during the earliest times. Of the more popular are the three big Gion festivals celebrated during summer months. These festivals entice visitors from all over Japan.

A breakthrough in Kitakyushu cultural arts occurred when the Kitakyushu Performing Arts Center opened in the city on August 2003. Housing three versatile performing halls, the center provides various entertainments, from small-budget theater groups to world-class orchestras.

Shopping lovers, fear not, for aside from the Riverwalk Kitakyushu, the Tanga Market of Kitakyushu was built just for you. Reminiscent of the post-war black market, the place is always buzzing with shoppers from different places hunting for bargains.
